I'm sitting here looking at pictures of the VW SP2, and keep thinking to myself, such a shame it never got a proper engine. This car could've been VW's answer to the 911.. but nope... never happened. I has sad.

Eh, what are you smoking? It looks like something AMC (or Rover) would push out.
There are better looking cars from VW even in popular lines...

What a good looking little thing.
This is the sort of car that I would love to modify. Cars that were cool, but didn't quite reach the mark. Cars that I can bring to the standard that they should have been produced.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder right? :) And the whole point was to spark a debate. But I'll openly admit that you're onto something, but what i meant, and probably should've put in the title was "the most beautiful car VW ever made that was NOT designed by Karmann Ghia :) (title now edited, my bad. We good now? :) )

I know a guy who owns one. You can't believe how many people call or stop him offering big amounts of money for it. It's not a great car, but surely good looking and very special.
Another thing that quickly skyrocketed in price was the SP2 Hot Wheels.

the front is somewhat meh, I'll agree to that, BUT the front ties it in with the VW 412 wich the SP2 was based on, so there is that I guess...

Tell him to take good care of it. This car is a thing of beauty :) As for the Hot Wheels, I managed to buy one about ten years ago, and it was not cheap, I'll tell you that.

mhm... give it a more powerful engine, better handling, lower it ever so slightly, perhaps some fuchs rims...

Well your title is "Perhaps the most beautiful VW ever made." Which really pushes the bounds a bit. Everyone has their preferences, but it would be quite strange to discount the majority of a companies product lines to help favor yours ;)
If you had simply state it was your favorite, I would be more curious about what you thought made it special.

Nah mate, I cocked it up see, I just forgot the not by Karmann Ghia part :) I was in a hurry.. the SP2 is by no means my favourite VW, THAT title goes to the MkII Golf Limited, but favourite designwise? Hmm.. I'll go out on a limb here and say the Passat CC :) But the SP2 is absolutely on the top three list.
PS: Notice that the title says perhaps :) I'm not trying to start an arguement here, just giving a shout out for a rather unknown car :)

You must be from the other side of the pond ;) I can't like anything that has headlights from a Datsun Pickup as a design que, but to each their own. Most people seem to hate popup headlights, but I like them on a lot of cars.

It's like a Saab Sonnet and a 280z had sex in a Porsche factory.

If you mean from Europe, then yes i am. I also happen to LOVE that Datsun Pickup :) But then again, I'm strange... If you ask me about what I think is the most beautiful car ever made, I'll probably answer as follows; No. 1 Jaguar E-type, No. 2 Jaguar Mark x No. 3 Citroën DS (in no particular order).

Like that's a bad thing? :P But yeah, you're kinda right you are. Unfortunatly it got an engine with the same amount of power that the Sonett had..

I can't argue with the E-Type, but the others... I don't know man. I guess some people are just different ;)

No, that's a very good thing. :D Shame about the power. Looks light — imagine if someone managed to wedge a rotary in there...
